About Aluminum PCB
Aluminum PCBs bond a copper circuit layer to an aluminum base through a thin, thermally conductive dielectric. Heat from LEDs, regulators and power devices passes through the dielectric into the metal and spreads out, so components run cooler and last longer than on standard FR4.
We supply single- and double-sided aluminum boards in thicknesses such as 1.6 mm and 2.0 mm, with 1 oz to 2 oz copper and dielectrics rated around 2.0 W/m·K. White solder mask is a common choice for LED boards because it reflects light.
Typical applications
- LED street and flood lights
- LED bulbs, tubes and panels
- Power supplies and converters
- Motor drives
- Automotive lighting
Common questions
What thermal conductivity do I need?
It depends on the heat load. Standard dielectrics are around 1 W/m·K, while higher-power LEDs and power stages often use 2 W/m·K or more. Send us the power dissipation of your hottest components and we can suggest a dielectric.
Should I choose aluminum or copper base?
Aluminum is lighter and lower in cost, and suits most LED and power designs. Copper base conducts heat better and is used for the highest thermal loads.
