About Special Base Material PCB
Not every design suits standard FR4. We source boards on specialty laminates chosen for cost, thermal, electrical or environmental requirements, including Arlon, Taconic, CEM-1 and halogen-free FR4.
Arlon TC600 is a ceramic-filled PTFE laminate with improved thermal conductivity, used for RF power amplifiers. CEM-1 is a lower-cost composite epoxy material. Halogen-free FR4 uses flame retardants without bromine or chlorine for products with environmental requirements. Different materials can also be combined in one board through mixed-material lamination.
Typical applications
- RF power amplifiers
- Cost-sensitive consumer boards
- Products with halogen-free or "green" material requirements
- Hybrid stack-ups mixing high-frequency and FR4 layers
Common questions
Can different materials be combined in one board?
Yes. Mixed-material lamination, such as a high-frequency layer bonded to FR4 layers, is part of our capability. It keeps cost down when only part of the board needs a premium laminate.
What does halogen-free mean?
The laminate uses flame retardants without bromine or chlorine. Halogen-free boards are often required by customers with environmental policies, and the usual reference standard is IEC 61249-2-21.
