About Rigid-Flex PCB
Rigid-flex boards combine rigid FR4 sections and flexible polyimide layers in a single laminated board. The flex areas act as built-in cables, which removes connectors and harnesses, saves space and weight, and eliminates a common point of failure.
We supply rigid-flex boards such as 4-layer builds with 0.6 mm rigid sections, 0.1 mm flex and an immersion gold finish, and designs with 1.2 mm rigid thickness. Rigid-flex suits products that must fold into a tight enclosure.
Typical applications
- Medical devices
- Aerospace and defense electronics
- Cameras
- Wearables
- Industrial sensors
Common questions
Is rigid-flex more expensive than separate boards and cables?
The bare board costs more, but it can lower the total cost by removing connectors, cables and assembly steps, and it improves reliability.
What should I check in a rigid-flex design?
Keep vias and components away from the rigid-to-flex transition, respect the minimum bend radius, and route traces across the flex area at right angles to the bend.
